Optical PLC splitters are designed to split one input signal into several output signals or combine several signals.

PLC splitters are made by depositing a waveguide layer (silicon dioxide) on a silicon substrate, then a ribbon fiber is welded to the resulting chip. Thereby to this technology, they can combine heat resistance, miniature size and a wide operating wavelength range.
